Gazi Faculty of Education at held the "2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony" with wide participation.
The event, held at the Rectorate’s Mimar Kemaleddin Hall, was attended by our Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal, Vice Rectors Prof. Necdet Hayta and Prof. Serhat Karyeyen, Rector's Advisors Prof. Selami Candan and Prof. Togay Seçkin Birbudak, former Rector of our university Prof. Musa Yıldız, Dean of the Gazi Faculty of Education Prof. Bilal Güneş, Vice Deans Prof. Serçin Karataş and Prof. Ferudun Sezgin, Secretary General Mustafa Afşar, faculty members, guests, and students.
The program began with a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem, followed by a musical performance. In his opening speech, our Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal remarked, "This important hall we are in today reminds us of 1926 and our unique history. This historic building has been a valuable gift to the teachers of the Republic of Turkey and a symbol of education."
Emphasizing that education is crucial for the survival of nations, our Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal concluded his speech by stating, "As members of Gazi University, we will continue to elevate our university and our unique country. At this point, we all share a common responsibility: to educate qualified individuals who will advance the Republic of Turkey. Dear teacher candidates of Gazi Faculty of Education, with every piece of knowledge you gain and every new skill you learn during your education, you will contribute to the Republic of Turkey. On this occasion, I wish our new academic year brings success to all of us. I hope you all have a year full of health, happiness, and success."
In his speech, Dean of the Gazi Faculty of Education Prof. Bilal Güneş emphasized that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk placed great importance on teachers. Shedding light on the history of the Gazi Faculty of Education, Prof. Güneş said, "This magnificent building, where we are holding our opening ceremony today, was initially opened under the name 'Middle School for Teachers.' In 1932, the institute moved into this building along with the Ankara Boys' Elementary School and was renamed 'Gazi Middle School for Teachers and Pedagogy Institute,' serving under this name for many years. By 1947, departments for Art, Physical Education, Music, Education, French, English, and German were also established."
Dean Prof. Bilal Güneş further noted that the Gazi Faculty of Education has played a pioneering role in training the educational staff needed by our country and ranks among Turkey's leading educational institutions. He concluded his speech by saying, "Dear colleagues, may our new academic year be prosperous and successful. I extend my love and respect to all of you."
Following the opening speeches, a gown-wearing ceremony was held, and certificates were presented to students who entered the faculty with top honors. The event concluded with a group photo.
